BE FRUITFUL AND MULTIPLY

“And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.”

Genesis 2: 18, 1: 22

King James Version

God’s first thought was for our happiness when He said “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him”. He always puts us first just as He did when He gave His beloved Son to die for us. What amazing Love from the heart of our Heavenly Father! God Loves us so much that He gave us someone to encourage and comfort us.

I think that when He said “Be fruitful, and multiply” that He was talking about more than bringing children into the world. I believe that He was also talking about being fruitful in our relationship with our spouses. I believe He was saying multiply in your encouragement, comfort, and love to each other. So many times people think that love means sex. The physical union between a husband and wife is a beautiful result of their deep love for each other. Without loving and respecting one another before we join with our spouses in a physical union, then we make a mockery of our love for one another.

The word “love” is so misused. Nothing irritates me more than to have someone call me “dear or honey” and they have never met me. I never tell anybody that I love them unless I mean it and it comes from my heart. We must get back to the purpose God has for us and that is to love one another unconditionally. We need to be praying on a daily basis for our spouses and to be encouragers, comforters and a help meet to them. Are you multiplying in your love to your spouse? More importantly, are you multiplying in your love and service to Jesus?
